LeBron James ignores recent criticism from Dillon Brooks of the Grizzlies

Posted : 23 April 2023
When the Los Angeles Lakers' first-round series against the Memphis Grizzlies and self-professed bear-poker Dillon Brooks resumes with Game 3 on Saturday, LeBron James will let his performance speak for itself.

"I'm not here for the bulls---," James said after practice Friday
"I'm ready to play and that's it."

After the No. 2-seeded Grizzlies defeated the No. 7-seeded Lakers in Game 2 103-93 to tie the series at one game each, the 27-year-old Brooks criticized the 38-year-old James, questioning the usefulness of the 20-year veteran at this point in his career.

"I don't care -- he's old. You know what I mean?" Brooks said
"I was waiting for that. I was expecting him to do that Game 4, Game 5. He wanted to say something when I got my fourth foul. He should have been saying that earlier on. But I poke bears. I don't respect no one until they come and give me 40."

James said that he was unaware of Brooks' remarks until a reporter inquired about them.

James minimized the importance of the extracurricular activity when asked if he has ever participated in a playoff series when the outcome depended on trash talking.
"The game is won in between the four lines," he said. "Always has, always will be."

In his career, James' teams had a 10-3 record versus Brooks. James has averaged 25.2 points on 52.2 percent shooting in the 11 regular-season games, and his best point total in those games was 34. James is averaging 24.5 points on 51.3 percent shooting and 11.5 rebounds in the first two games of this series.
