LeBron and Durant: U.S. thrilled by Wembanyama's performance

Victor Wembanyama's performance in San Antonio's away win over Phoenix on Thursday through Friday left a strong impression on the U.S. The French forward delivered an outstanding performance with 38 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks. It was his best game since joining the NBA and played a pivotal role in Gregg Popovich's team's impressive 132-121 victory, despite nearly losing a 27-point lead.
Wembanyama has achieved remarkable milestones early in his NBA career, making him comparable to some of the greatest players. As the 19-year-old, selected 70th overall in the draft by the Spurs, became only the third teenager since the 35s to record a game with at least 10 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 blocks. The other two players who achieved this feat were LeBron James and Kevin Durant.
Comparisons to Durant were inevitable, and when asked about Wembanyama's future, Durant had nothing but compliments for the young Frenchman. Durant acknowledged their shared slender build but emphasized that Wembanyama is forging his own path and learning from great players in the league.
Coach Gregg Popovich praised Wembanyama's versatility, self-confidence, and remarkable moves, highlighting the combination of talent and confidence in the young player.
Wembanyama himself spoke about the strategy in each game, emphasizing the importance of finding the opponent's weaknesses and adapting to exploit them. He also expressed confidence in his adaptation to the NBA, acknowledging the league's high level of talent.
Despite the Suns' high expectations as championship contenders following the trade for Bradley Beal, they have a 3-2 record early in the season with two home losses out of three games. They made an impressive comeback from a 27-point deficit against the Spurs, forcing a 116-116 tie in the final quarter. However, the Spurs ultimately secured their second consecutive away win at Footprint Arena. Devin Booker scored 31 points, and Durant added 28, but the Suns had to play without the injured Bradley Beal.
Devin Booker stressed the need for the Suns to play well and be competitive for the entire game, aiming to achieve consistency in their performances.
