Knicks star's unforgettable, extraordinary shooting prowess—an all-time great display.

Posted : 16 December 2023

The United States is celebrating Jalen Brunson's sensational performance during the Friday-to-Saturday game, where the Knicks secured a 139-122 victory over Phoenix. Brunson, the guard, achieved a career-high 50 points, making an impressive 9-of-9 shots from beyond the arc and 17-of-23 overall, remaining flawless in the second half. This historic feat establishes him as the sole player in NBA history to score 50 or more points solely from three-point range.

Brunson's outstanding performance continued in the second half, highlighted by his eighth three-pointer, bouncing on the rim before dropping in—a moment that emphasized his unstoppable form. Broadcaster Mike Breen exclaimed, "We're witnessing one of the greatest shooting displays in New York Knicks history."

In addition to this remarkable achievement, Brunson set another milestone by becoming the first player in the league since Michael Jordan to score 50 or more points along with 9 assists, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals in a single game. He also became the first Knicks player since Walt Frazier in 1973 to score more than 40 points with 5 or more assists and 5 steals.

Despite Phoenix's strong start led by Kevin Durant (29 points, 17 in the first half), Brunson dominated the final two quarters. The Knicks took control in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Suns 42-23, securing a significant away win after three consecutive losses outside Madison Square Garden.

Reflecting on the game, Durant acknowledged the Knicks' effectiveness in pick-and-roll plays, which ultimately decided the outcome. Speaking about Brunson, Durant recognized him as the leader of the team, praising the support and strategic positioning provided to generate points.

Downplaying his historic performance, Brunson expressed the importance of continuous improvement, emphasizing the team's long journey ahead. Regarding his flawless shooting from beyond the arc, he admitted not being aware of it during the game, focusing on playing freely.

At the game's conclusion, Brunson's teammate Julius Randle handed him the game ball as a symbol of recognition. Randle's gesture, in contrast to a previous incident involving Giannis in a Milwaukee-Indiana game, highlighted the team's acknowledgment of Brunson's exceptional contribution, marking a memorable moment in Knicks history.
