Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets made NBA history by recording the highest-scoring triple-double ever, amassing 61 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. Despite his record-breaking performance, the Nuggets were narrowly defeated by the Minnesota Timberwolves 140-139 in overtime at Ball Arena.
Jokic surpassed the previous record set by his teammate Russell Westbrook, who scored 57 points with 13 rebounds and 11 assists for the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2017.
Westbrook, who joined the Nuggets in 2024, played a crucial role in the game's dramatic final moments. With Denver leading by one point and just 10 seconds left in overtime, Westbrook missed a layup, allowing the Timberwolves to stay in the game.
Shortly after, he fouled Nickeil Alexander-Walker while attempting to block a three-point attempt with only 0.1 seconds remaining, resulting in Alexander-Walker being awarded three free throws. He made two of the shots, securing the Timberwolves' victory.
The Timberwolves, who were missing key players Naz Reid and Donte DiVincenzo due to one-game suspensions, are currently ranked seventh in the Western Conference. The Nuggets, despite Jokic's incredible performance, remain in third place. The game’s outcome was a tough loss for Denver, but Jokic's remarkable feat added a historic moment to the game.
In other NBA action, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors dazzled with 12 three-pointers and 52 points in a 134-125 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr praised Curry’s performance, noting the player's exceptional skill and conditioning at 37 years old.
Curry’s performance helped the Warriors climb to fifth place in the Western Conference, surpassing the Grizzlies in the standings.
