After posting mysterious remarks on his Instagram account on Wednesday, Tennessee police checked on Memphis Grizzlies player Ja Morant's safety. According to officials, he's merely "taking a break from social media."
Wednesday morning, Morant uploaded and later removed texts and images on social media with the following message:"Love ya ma [blue heart emoji],"
"Love ya pops [blue heart emoji]"
"You da greatest baby girl [blue heart emoji] love ya." He then followed those with a post that simply said, "Bye."
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office's Public Information Officer verified that when authorities visited Morant's residence on Wednesday morning to check on him, "he is well."
After a May 13 social media video surfaced showing Morant, 23, clutching a pistol, he was barred from all team events.
The All-Star can be seen in the video flashing a revolver in a car while rapping along to a song, which aired during an Instagram Live session on the account of Morant's friend Davonte Pack. The footage was removed.
After a video surfaced in March showing Morant carrying a pistol while inebriated at a Denver bar while the Grizzlies were in town to play the Nuggets, Morant quit the Grizzlies and enrolled in a treatment programme.
After meeting with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, who described Morant's actions as "irresponsible, reckless, and possibly extremely hazardous," he was ultimately given an eight-game suspension.
Morant told reporters at the time of the ban that he understands "what I have to lose" and that he will work to be more responsible, more intelligent, and keeping away from all the poor mistakes.
