Izan Almansa wins TISSOT Most Valuable Player award for Spain's U19 World Cup 2023

Izan Almansa added another accolade to his collection as he was honored with the TISSOT Most Valuable Player title of the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2023 for his instrumental role in guiding Spain to the championship.
In the intense 73-69 overtime victory against France, Almansa showcased his skills with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 steals, and 1 block. Throughout the tournament, Almansa maintained impressive averages of 16.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. He led the Spanish team in scoring, rebounds, and blocks.
This is not Almansa's first experience as an MVP, as he previously received the TISSOT MVP award at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022 and the FIBA U18 European Championship 2022.
Expressing his gratitude, Almansa humbly credited his teammates, stating, "I don't know how it happened. It's all about my teammates. They passed me the ball and believed in me, so this is for them too."
Joining Almansa in the All-Star 5 lineup were his compatriot Jordi Rodriguez, Zacharie Perrin from France, Berke Buyuktuncel representing Turkey, and Mark Armstrong from the United States.
Rodriguez exhibited consistent performance throughout the tournament, averaging 13.6 points with a 39 percent success rate from three-point range, along with 2.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.4 steals. In the Final, he led the team with 18 points, including three successful three-pointers.
Perrin made a significant impact before fouling out late in regulation during the Final. He contributed 14 points, 20 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Over the course of the tournament, the power forward recorded impressive stats of 15.4 points, a tournament-best 10.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks. He also achieved the highest efficiency rating of the tournament (25.1).
Buyuktuncel showcased his versatile skills on both ends of the court throughout the tournament, averaging 11.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.6 blocks.
Meanwhile, Armstrong led the scoring for the United States with an average of 12.4 points per game, accompanied by 1.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.9 steals.
