Impressions Basketball Club made Ebun Comets work hard for victory – Coach Ayo Bakare

Head Coach of Ebun Comets, Ayo Bakare, praised Impressions Basketball Club of Delta for putting up a good fight in the Match Day 2 encounter of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Basketball Premier League, which took place in Ibadan on Monday.

On Monday evening, Comets bounced back from their opening day loss to Kwara Falcons to secure a 60-35 point victory over Impressions.

Bakare said, "The result of the match didn't reflect how challenging the game was for our team. Impressions is a strong team; they are young and athletic and play with very high intensity, making it difficult to contain them. The scoreline doesn't truly represent the game; we're not 25 points better than them. They are a good, young team, and they could have easily won the game."

The coach admitted that his team was not yet performing to its full potential but assured the club's fans that they would approach the league one game at a time.

"We're still far from where we should be, not yet playing up to our potential, but it's a relief that we managed to secure the win today," he said.

"This is a marathon, not a sprint. We hope to be among the top four teams in this center and qualify for the next phase, so we're taking it one game at a time," he concluded.

Coach Bakare's team had lost their opening match of the season to Kwara Falcons on Sunday, with a score of 55-60.

Earlier on Monday, defending champions Kwara Falcons secured their second win in the current campaign with a 75-73 victory over Hoops & Reads.

In the second game of the day, Ondo Raiders defeated Invaders 60-41.

Action continues on Tuesday in the Ibadan Center of the Atlantic conference, with Oluyole Warriors facing Ebun Comets at 12:00 noon. Hoops & Reads will battle Invaders at 2:00 pm, and the last game of Match Day 3 will see Ondo Raiders take on Kwara Falcons.
