Ilias Kamardine had a double celebration at the FIBA U20 European Championship 2023, leading France to victory and being named the Most Valuable Player.
Throughout the tournament, Kamardine showcased his skills as a strong and versatile guard, but he truly shined in the Final, contributing 23 points, 3 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks in an exhilarating 89-79 overtime win against Israel.
Over the course of the championship, Kamardine maintained impressive averages of 14.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.6 steals, and 0.9 blocks. He tied with Maxime Raynaud as the top scorer for Team France, led the tournament in steals, and ranked second in assists.
Joining Kamardine on the All-Star Five were Israel's standout players Daniel Wolf and Noam Yaacov, along with Vangelis Zougris from Greece, and Thijs De Ridder from Belgium. Wolf and Yaacov made a significant impact for Israel, with Yaacov delivering 31 points and 5 assists in the Final, while Wolf notched a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds.
Throughout the competition, Wolf averaged an impressive double-double of 17.7 points and 12.0 rebounds, along with 2.4 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.3 blocks. Yaacov showcased his playmaking abilities, tallying 16.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, 7.6 assists, and 1.0 steal, making him the top assist man in the event.
Vangelis Zougris led the way for Greece, providing a strong presence with 14.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.0 block, making him the second-best rebounder in Crete.
Thijs De Ridder was instrumental in Belgium's impressive fourth-place finish, contributing 16.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.4 steals, showcasing his outstanding performance throughout the championship.
