Grizzlies' Dillon Brooks: The "Villain" label contributed to the expulsion

Dillon Brooks, a forward with the Memphis Grizzlies, feels that being viewed as a "villain" contributed to his flagrant foul 2 and ejection early in the third quarter of Saturday's Game 3 defeat to the Los Angeles Lakers.
LeBron James' groin was accidentally hit by Brooks' left hand as he attempted to grab the ball from the Lakers star as he dribbled up the court, according to Brooks, who declined to speak following the game at USC's Galen Center.
Royce O'Neale of the Brooklyn Nets was struck in the groin area in Game 3 of that series by Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden, who was later ejected. Brooks claimed he never received an explanation from crew chief referee Marc Davis for the flagrant 2 call but hypothesized that Davis' reputation played a role in the decision.
"The media making me a villain, the fans making me a villain and then that just creates a whole different persona on me," Brooks said.
"So now you think I intended to hit LeBron James in the nuts. I'm playing basketball. I'm a basketball player. So if I intended -- and that's whatever is in the flagrant 2 category -- if you think I did that, that means you think I'm that type of person."
