Giannis Antetokounmpo's 54 points not enough as Pacers edge past Bucks in a thriller

Posted : 10 November 2023
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s monumental effort of 54 points wasn’t enough to secure a win for the Milwaukee Bucks against the Indiana Pacers, who triumphed 126-124 in a tight matchup. Despite an outstanding performance by Antetokounmpo, including near career-high stats, two crucial turnovers in the closing minutes marred the Bucks' chances.

Tyrese Haliburton and Bennedict Mathurin led the Pacers' charge, with Haliburton contributing 29 points and 10 assists while Mathurin added 26 points and 11 rebounds. The Pacers initially built an 18-point lead, then rallied from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to clinch the win.

Antetokounmpo, only a point shy of his career best, expressed regret over pivotal turnovers, acknowledging being fatigued in the crucial moments. The absence of their coach, Adrian Griffin, who was ejected in the third quarter, further complicated the Bucks' situation.

Despite Antetokounmpo's standout performance, hitting 54 points while shooting an impressive 75%, the Bucks were unable to secure a victory, missing key opportunities in the closing moments. The absence of All-Star Damian Lillard due to calf soreness compounded Milwaukee's challenges.

Indiana, despite a formidable start by the Bucks and Antetokounmpo’s remarkable scoring spree, managed to clinch the win with crucial free throws and a strategic play by Bruce Brown. The game marked an impressive performance by Antetokounmpo but ended in defeat for the Bucks.
