Posted : 10 September 2023
Germany achieved a historic victory in the FIBA World Cup, defeating Serbia 83-77 in their first-ever final appearance. The game was evenly poised at halftime, with Dennis Schroeder (28 points) and Franz Wagner (19 points, 7 rebounds) leading a decisive third-quarter surge. Germany's remarkable undefeated tournament run culminated in a dream victory.

This victory marked Germany's first-ever Mundobasket win, and it was also the first purely European final since 2006. The Germans entered the semifinals as the only undefeated team and eliminated the top contender, the United States, in a memorable performance.

Dennis Schroeder, Germany's star captain, delivered a standout performance, scoring 28 points and earning the tournament MVP title with an average of 19.1 points and 6.1 assists. Franz Wenger, who returned from injury to contribute significantly to the title run, finished with 19 points and 7 assists.

Serbia, missing key stars like Nikola Jokic, had to settle for second place. Bogdan Bogdanovic led Serbia with 17 points but only managed 2 in the second half. Alexa Abramovich was the game's top scorer with 21 points. Serbia made a late comeback attempt, but Marko Gudoric missed a crucial three-pointer, sealing Germany's victory.

The game started at a high pace, with lead changes and intense action. Serbia held a narrow lead in the first quarter, but Germany fought back, closing the quarter at 26-23. The second quarter saw a tight contest, with Germany tying the game at 47-47 by halftime.

In the second half, the pace slowed down, but Dennis Schroeder led Germany on a 2-13 run, giving them an 11-point lead. Although Serbia attempted a comeback, Germany held firm, and five points from Franz Wagner helped secure a 69-57 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Serbia mounted a spirited effort in the final quarter, narrowing the gap to single digits. However, Dennis Schroeder's leadership guided Germany to a historic 83-77 victory, capturing their first-ever FIBA World Cup title.
