Gboko City Chiefs dream NBBF crown

The General Manager of Gboko City Chiefs Basketball Club, Fanen Iornem, said they are in Port Harcourt to win the NBBF Final Four championship. Iornem stated this on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to the Rivers Commissioner for Sports, Barr Chris Green. He reiterated that the team is ready for any opposition, emphasizing that Gboko City Chiefs are bonded together sufficiently and are in high spirits to overcome opposing teams and secure the title.

"I will just tell you straightforwardly that we are here to win; as much as bookmakers might want to say anything, we are happy that everybody is looking at us like the 4th team because this is our second season in the NBBF league, but we are here to win with the caliber of players we have. We have everything we need to succeed."

Regarding basketball in Nigeria, the GM acknowledged the high level but emphasized the need for more championships and a longer playing period to improve the game.

Team captain, Antibas Samaila, and Center, Bright Osagie Akhuetie, reiterated the GM's position, expressing their readiness to give their all and stating that they are not scared of any team.

Welcoming the team to Rivers State, Barr Chris Green expressed delight that the final four championship was taking place in Port Harcourt. He assured that necessary facilities and associated logistics have been put in place to enable a hitch-free competition. Green, emphasizing that basketball is his first love in sports, noted that the state would make the best of the final four championship to showcase the dominance of Rivers Hoopers among other teams.

"We have in place what is probably the best basketball court in Nigeria as of today. We have done everything possible to ensure a great atmosphere for everybody. I am happy that the final four is here. There will be a level playing ground for every team; let basketball be the winner. Rivers Hoopers are the home of basketball in Nigeria, and we have always been winning. I want to welcome every team to Rivers State."
