Former NBA Stars Warn James Harden: Behavior could cost him NBA career
Posted : 01 October 2023
NBA veterans Kevin Garnett, Matt Barnes, and Stephen Jackson have voiced concerns about James Harden's behavior amid his ongoing dispute with the Philadelphia 76ers. Harden has expressed his desire to leave the team and has been publicly critical of the team's president of basketball operations, Daryl Morey. The former players warn that Harden's actions could harm his career and reputation within the league.
Matt Barnes, a 13-year NBA veteran, emphasized the importance of a player's conduct, stating that despite Harden's talent, his behavior may lead to him being unwanted in the league. He questioned whether teams would be willing to take on Harden's contract and whether the Houston Rockets, his former team, would consider reacquiring him.
Kevin Garnett, a Hall of Famer and NBA champion, mentioned that while players have limited options to exit contracts with teams, continuously demanding trades and causing disruptions can have consequences.
Stephen Jackson, also an NBA champion, pointed out that as players age, teams may become less tolerant of disruptive behavior, suggesting that Harden's actions could affect his future in the league.
The conflict between Harden and the 76ers began when he demanded a max contract that the team was unwilling to provide. This led to his request for a trade. The situation escalated when Harden called Morey a liar, resulting in a $100,000 fine. Harden's future in the NBA remains uncertain as the dispute continues.
Harden was recently seen at the U.S. Cup Finals, where his co-owned team, the Houston Dynamo, secured a victory, taking advantage of the absence of the injured Leo Messi.
