FIBA U19 World Cup 2023 awards Best Defensive Player, Best Coach

The FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2023 unveiled a fresh set of awards, including the Best Defensive Player, Best Coach, and the U19 World Cup 2023 All-Second Team. These awards were previously announced at last year's FIBA Basketball Women's World Cup 2022.
The All-Second Team roster featured talented players from various nations. Tan Yildizoglu represented Turkey, Melvin Ajinca represented France, Lee Aaliya showcased his skills for Argentina, Yang Hansen represented China, and Tobe Awaka represented the United States.
Yildizoglu played a crucial role in Turkey's third-place finish in the U19 World Cup, leading the team in assists with an average of 5.3 per game, along with contributing 9.4 points and 2.3 rebounds.
Ajinca showcased his scoring prowess for France, nearly propelling his team to the title. He emerged as France's leading scorer with an impressive average of 19.3 points per game (the second-best in the competition), shooting at an impressive 49 percent from beyond the arc. Ajinca also contributed 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists.
Aaliya, the skilled big man from Argentina, stood out as the fourth-highest scorer (17.1 points per game) and rebounder (9.0 rebounds per game) in the tournament. He also made an impact on defense with 1.3 steals and 2.1 blocks per game.
Yang displayed his versatility for China, averaging 12.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and an impressive 5.0 blocks per game. He ranked third in rebounds, fourth in assists, and topped the tournament in blocks.
Awaka represented the United States with consistent performances, averaging 11.6 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game. He emerged as the tournament's second-leading rebounder and achieved the best efficiency rating (18.1) among his team.
Asa Newell from the United States earned the recognition as the Best Defensive Player. He made significant contributions to the team's defense, averaging 7.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game.
The Best Coach award was bestowed upon Lamine Kebe from France. Under his guidance, the French team reached the U19 World Cup Final, with their only two losses coming at the hands of Spain.
