In an exciting development reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic, Ekpe Udoh, the former NBA big man and highly acclaimed Nigerian basketball talent, is embarking on a new chapter in his career as he joins the coaching staff of the Atlanta Hawks under the guidance of Quin Snyder.
Despite not being part of an NBA roster since 2019, Udoh has continued to showcase his skills overseas, representing various clubs in China, Italy, and Japan.
However, this coaching opportunity will allow him to work closely with Onyeka Okongwu, a talented American basketball star of Nigerian descent who is currently a member of the Atlanta Hawks.
After concluding his stint with Kyoto Hannaryz in Japan earlier this year, the 36-year-old Udoh has made the decision to retire from playing and transition into a coaching role.
Looking back at his playing career, Udoh's journey began in 2010 when he was chosen as the sixth overall pick in the NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors.
Subsequently, he went on to play for the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Utah Jazz during the period from 2010 to 2019.
Additionally, while playing in Turkey and Israel during that time, the 6'10" center showcased his talents for Fenerbahce, contributing significantly to their triumph in the 2017 EuroLeague championship.
Notably, Udoh led the league in rebounding and shot blocks during that successful season, earning him a well-deserved place in the All-EuroLeague First Team.
