Nigeria's D'Tigers on Wednesday overpowered their Gabonese counterparts with a comfortable 71-55 to return the winning ways after defeat to Angola.
Africa Sport Network (ASN) reports that D’Tigers have been on the tight rope with a defeat to Angola on Monday which also sent the team packing from the ongoing FIBA AfroCan tournament in Angola.
D'Tigers of Nigeria before the defeat had ensured a bright start to the campaign on Sunday when they defeated Mali.
However, a sloppy game against Angola in the second match on Monday means the team could lose the quarter-final ticket except a win in the next match against Gabon.
Angola on Monday defeated D'Tigers 57-48 to progress to the 2023 FIBA AfroCan quarterfinals having recorded two consecutive wins over Mali and Nigeria.
The home-based Nigerian team then needed to go through the classification round route for a chance to make it to the quarterfinal.
The Nigerian side however bounced back strongly on Wednesday to reach the quarter-final of the championship after handing a defeat to senior national basketball team of Gabon.
The two were tied at 18-18 at the end of the first quarter but D'Tigers steered clear in the 2nd quarter with a 25-15 win.
They extended their lead in the 3rd quarter with 15-13 before wrapping up in the final quarter 15-8.
Nigeria will now face the 2019 champions DR Congo in their next match.
