Detroit Pistons break unwanted record with 27 consecutive losses

Posted : 27 December 2023

The Detroit Pistons faced yet another setback, losing 118-112 against the Brooklyn Nets, marking their 27th consecutive defeat and eclipsing the record set by the 2013-14 Philadelphia team for the longest losing streak in a single season. Despite Cade Cunningham's valiant effort, scoring 41 points, the Pistons couldn't evade defeat, leaving them winless since October 28 and on the verge of breaking another record with 28 consecutive losses.

Meanwhile, Ja Morant's resurgence since his return to the Memphis Grizzlies has seen them triumph in all four games. Morant's stellar performance, earning him the Western Conference Player of the Week title, continued as he contributed 31 points and 7 assists, leading the Grizzlies to a thrilling 116-115 overtime victory against the New Orleans Pelicans. Desmond Bane, with 27 points, and Jaren Jackson Jr., scoring 19, further fueled Memphis's success.

The Oklahoma City Thunder showcased their rising prowess by overpowering the Minnesota Timberwolves 129-106, securing their sixth win in eight games. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's outstanding 34-point game, backed by contributions from Jaylen Williams, Chet Holmgren, and Lou Dort, propelled the Thunder to a comfortable victory, outclassing the Western Conference leaders.

Tyrese Haliburton's impressive 33-point, 10-assist performance guided the Indiana Pacers to a crucial 123-117 win against the Houston Rockets, breaking their three-game losing streak. In another match, the Utah Jazz secured their third consecutive victory by defeating the San Antonio Spurs 130-118, with Lauri Markkanen leading the way with 31 points and 12 rebounds.

The Atlanta Hawks, despite Trae Young's commendable 21-point, 13-assist effort, fell short against the Chicago Bulls, succumbing to a 113-118 defeat. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers bounced back with a 104-113 win over the Charlotte Hornets, propelled by James Harden's 29 points and Paul George's 25-point contribution.

The Portland Trail Blazers orchestrated an upset against the Sacramento Kings, securing a 130-113 victory led by Anfernee Simons' 29-point performance, along with standout displays from rookies Doop Reath and Scott Henderson, halting Sacramento's momentum despite De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis's combined 77-point effort.
