D'Angelo Russell praises LeBron James for ending Lakers' losing streak

Posted : 02 November 2023
The LA Lakers have put an end to their 11-game losing streak against city rivals, the LA Clippers, with a remarkable comeback in the second half of the game. Thanks to a dazzling performance by LeBron James, who scored 35 points, the Lakers secured a thrilling 130-125 overtime victory, improving their season record to 3-2.

The Clippers were missing their new 10-time NBA All-Star guard, James Harden, who had recently joined from the Philadelphia 76ers in a high-profile trade. All eyes were on the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles as the Lakers and Clippers renewed their rivalry. LeBron James, a four-time NBA champion and MVP, played a starring role in the Lakers' first victory over their city rivals in 12 attempts, stretching back to 2020.

During the early stages of the game, the Lakers found themselves trailing by 19 points in the first quarter and 13 points at halftime. However, LeBron James inspired a remarkable comeback, contributing 14 crucial points in the fourth quarter and overtime.

Team-mate D'Angelo Russell praised James, saying, "He took over from every cylinder, to guarding, into the free throw line, for making shots. Just leading us." The Lakers have shown a pattern of strong second-half performances this season, and James excels in close games, making crucial plays down the stretch.

LeBron James stated, "If we keep the game close, I feel like in the fourth quarter, that's when I'm at my best." The Lakers now hold a 3-2 season record, matching the Clippers' performance after five games.

In other NBA action, the Denver Nuggets suffered their first defeat of the season in a surprise loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Houston Rockets secured a victory over the Charlotte Hornets, and the Dallas Mavericks maintained their perfect record with a win against the Chicago Bulls. The Memphis Grizzlies are still in search of their first win after losing to the Utah Jazz, while the Golden State Warriors secured a narrow one-point win over the Sacramento Kings.
