Curry’s 37-Point Performance Leads Warriors to Victory Over Mavericks in NBA Cup

Posted : 13 November 2024

Steph Curry led the Golden State Warriors to a 120-117 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Cup, scoring 37 points, including the Warriors' final 12. His impressive performance was capped off with a clutch three-pointer that put the Warriors up 118-114, highlighting his strong start to the season. The game was particularly special as it marked the return of Klay Thompson to the Chase Center after leaving the Warriors to join the Mavericks during the offseason.

Thompson, who spent 13 seasons with the Warriors, returned to the Bay Area and contributed 22 points in the game. Curry, reflecting on his former teammate’s return, described the experience as surreal, noting the oddity of facing Thompson after years of playing together. "We went over our pre-game scout and the match-ups," Curry explained, adding that it felt strange to be on the opposite side of Thompson.

Thompson, a five-time NBA All-Star, acknowledged Curry's game-winning ability, particularly in clutch moments. "It hurts to be on the other side of one of his flurries," Thompson said, recognizing Curry’s ability to get hot when it matters most, especially during the final stages of the game. Despite the loss, Thompson was clearly aware of Curry’s pivotal role in the Warriors' win.

In other NBA Cup action, the Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 122-108, while the Milwaukee Bucks overcame the Toronto Raptors 99-85. The NBA Cup follows a format that begins with a group stage, followed by single-elimination knockout rounds, adding intensity to the competition.
