Cleveland Cavaliers' Historic Winning Streak Ended by Boston Celtics

The Cleveland Cavaliers' impressive 15-game winning streak was snapped with a thrilling 120-117 loss to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Cup at TD Garden. The Cavaliers had made history by becoming just the fourth team in NBA history to start a season 15-0, having defeated the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday. However, the Celtics, led by Jayson Tatum's 33 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists, were too strong, with six of their players reaching double figures to hand the Cavs their first defeat.

 

Despite trailing by 17 points at halftime, the Cavaliers mounted a fierce comeback, spearheaded by Evan Mobley, who finished with 22 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists. The Cavs managed to cut the deficit to just two points midway through the final quarter, but the Celtics held firm to secure the win. Celtics guard Derrick White acknowledged the significance of the game, noting the Cavaliers' undefeated record and the importance of the NBA Cup match after Boston had already lost one.

 

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers extended their winning streak to six games with a 124-118 victory over the Utah Jazz. Rookie Dalton Knecht, selected 17th in the 2024 draft, had a career-high 37 points and tied a rookie record by hitting nine three-pointers in the win. The Lakers' victory added to their strong start to the season as they continue to build momentum.

 

Elsewhere in the NBA, the Denver Nuggets defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 122-110, and the Dallas Mavericks dominated the New Orleans Pelicans 132-91. The NBA Cup, which was introduced in 2023 and won by the LA Lakers, counts toward regular-season standings but is separate from the NBA Championship, which remains outside the regular season.
