The Celtics began the season with a promise to turn past playoff disappointments into a championship victory. Eight months later, they fulfilled that promise by securing the franchise's 18th championship. The celebration included a traditional duck boat parade on Friday, where a massive crowd gathered to honor the Celtics’ triumph, marking the 13th championship won by Boston's major sports teams this century.
This celebration, starting at TD Garden and lasting about 90 minutes, saw the parade wind through key parts of Boston, including City Hall, Boston Common, and Boylston Street, before concluding at Hynes Convention Center.
The victory over the Dallas Mavericks in five games of the NBA Finals not only added another title to the Celtics’ legacy but also broke their tie with the Los Angeles Lakers for the most championships in NBA history. Fans enthusiastically celebrated, showcasing signs, climbing light posts, and cheering on their team.
During the pre-parade rally at the Garden, All-Star Jayson Tatum expressed his disbelief and excitement over the victory. Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck, along with his family, had to navigate through the crowded streets with the Larry O'Brien Trophy and the new championship banner, highlighting the city's fervent support. The rally featured players, their families, Celtics staff, and notable guests, including Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu.
The team’s journey to the championship culminated in numerous celebrations, from a Champagne-spraying locker room to a private party in Miami. Coach Joe Mazzulla brought the celebration back to Boston, allowing fans to see and touch the trophy.
As the team paraded through the city, the theme of unity, embodied by the mantra "Together," was evident. Jaylen Brown, who was named Finals MVP, emphasized the team-first attitude that led to their success. With their core players under contract, the Celtics are well-positioned to pursue back-to-back championships, aiming to extend their legacy even further.
