Cavaliers Match Franchise Record with Eighth Straight Win Over Bucks

Posted : 05 November 2024

The Cleveland Cavaliers have made history by matching a franchise record with their eighth consecutive win to start the season, narrowly defeating the Milwaukee Bucks 116-114. This victory tied the team with a record set during the 1976-77 season, showcasing a strong performance from Darius Garland, who led all scorers with 39 points. The Bucks were without star player Giannis Antetokounmpo due to injury, making the win even more significant for Cleveland.

Garland played a crucial role in securing the victory, hitting a three-pointer with just 45 seconds left and later assisting Jarrett Allen on a decisive lay-up with only 12.2 seconds remaining. Reflecting on the team's success, Garland expressed disbelief, saying, "It's hard to get one [win] so eight is crazy." Despite a strong showing from Damian Lillard, who scored 36 points for the Bucks, Milwaukee could not overcome a six-game losing streak.

In other league action, the Oklahoma City Thunder also remained unbeaten, achieving their seventh straight win with a solid 102-86 victory over the Orlando Magic. Jalen Williams led the Thunder with 23 points, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander contributed 21 points, helping the team maintain its perfect record this season. The Thunder's consistent performance has made them a formidable contender in the league.

Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors welcomed back Stephen Curry after a three-game absence due to an ankle sprain, and he made an immediate impact in their 125-112 win over the Washington Wizards. Curry scored 24 points in his return, guiding the Warriors to a perfect 4-0 record on the road this season. His presence was a key factor in the team's ability to secure the victory.

In a matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers, the Detroit Pistons snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 115-103 win, thanks to Jaden Ivey's 26 points and Cade Cunningham's impressive triple-double, which included 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists. Despite Anthony Davis leading all scorers with 37 points for the Lakers, they couldn't capitalize on his performance. Additionally, Kevin Durant's 35 points helped the Phoenix Suns secure a narrow 118-116 win over the Philadelphia 76ers, while the Boston Celtics dominated the Atlanta Hawks with a convincing 123-93 victory.
