Despite recent setbacks, Canada's fiery women's basketball team entered the tournament as the top seed, determined to prove themselves. They dominated in group play, easily defeating Neftchi and Italy with the Plouffe sisters' exceptional coordination and Paige Crozon's impressive scoring, tallying 31 points.
In the quarter-finals, they faced a strong challenge from rivals USA but secured a comfortable 21-12 victory, shutting down Breanna Richardson. Another win against Gyor earned them a spot in the finals, which they ultimately won.
China, the standout team of the Women's Series, had previously won multiple stops with both an experienced squad led by Lili Wang and a youthful team.
They had a strong start to the tournament, defeating Switzerland and Gyor, with Mingling Chen and Yujie Chen delivering notable performances.
They continued their success with hard-fought wins against the USA U24 team and Italy, setting up an anticipated clash with Canada in the final.
In the finals, Canada's Michelle Plouffe showcased her exceptional skills, contributing 8 points, 9 rebounds, and impressive assists.
They held a comfortable lead, but China's Kun Huang ignited a comeback, hitting crucial shots to tie the game.
However, Kacie Bosch's dagger shot with less than two minutes remaining secured the victory for Canada, despite China's relentless efforts. Katherine Plouffe's significant impact on both ends of the court earned her the tournament's MVP title.
The final standings saw Canada claiming the top spot, followed by China in second place, and Italy and Gyor (HUN) rounding out the top four. The Women's Series will continue in Marseille, France, on June 29-30.
