Bronny James, selected 55th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, quickly became a focal point during the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas despite his lower draft position. His jersey from his Summer League debut game sold for an impressive $38,400 at Sotheby’s auction, significantly surpassing its estimated value of $6,000 to $10,000. This figure was over ten times higher than the jersey of top draft pick Zachary Rizasha, whose jersey sold for $3,360, and more than double that of Reed Shepard’s, which fetched $15,600.
The auction's results showcased Bronny’s substantial marketability, with his jersey nearly matching the price of his father LeBron James' game-worn jersey, which sold for $42,000. LeBron’s jersey was from a Lakers game where he logged a triple-double performance. This close comparison underscores the remarkable interest in Bronny, driven by his familial connection and rising profile, even though his on-court contributions during Summer League were modest, scoring just four points in his debut.
In contrast, last year’s first overall pick, Victor Wembanyama, saw his Summer League jersey sell for $62,020, and his regular-season debut jersey went for a staggering $762,000. Bronny’s jersey is unlikely to reach such heights, but the auction clearly highlighted his appeal and commercial potential in the early stages of his NBA career.
