The Los Angeles Lakers' selection of Bronny James in the 2024 draft was primarily driven by the desire to reunite him with his father, LeBron James, adding significant pressure on the 19-year-old guard. James Jr. was picked 55th in the second round to fulfill LeBron's dream of playing alongside his son before retiring.
Bronny's NBA career hasn't taken off immediately, as he is currently participating in the summer league for the Lakers. His initial performance was underwhelming, but during the Summer League in Las Vegas, Bronny showed some improvement, scoring 8 points and grabbing 4 rebounds in a 99-80 loss to Houston.
Despite his slow start, Bronny is expected to begin the season wearing the number 9 jersey for the Lakers. Although his playing time may be limited initially, he remains open to different possibilities, including playing in the G League. "I mainly expect to play basketball; I don't rule anything out. No matter what level I'll play. Right now I just feel like I'm in a bit of a slump," he told ESPN. Bronny and the Lakers will next face the Boston Celtics in the Summer League.
