All is now set for the 4th edition of the Grassroots Basketball Competition, with teams across the South-West poised to compete for honor at the 2-day event scheduled for the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The basketball tournament tipped off on Tuesday, with the final set to be held on Wednesday, the 20th of December 2023.
Since its inception four years ago, the competition, aimed at empowering kids and giving back to society, has consistently provided a platform for basketballers across the state and the region to showcase their skills.
According to the convener of the initiative, Seyi Owolabi, the event has created a carnival-like Christmas atmosphere for fans to enjoy the best of basketball and serves as a discovery source for many young players who have gone on to represent their states and national teams.
Other side attractions include free-throw competitions, half-court shots, a 3-point shot competition, and entertainment. Outstanding youngsters will also go home with basketball kits and a lot of interesting gifts.
First, second, and third-placed teams will receive cash prizes, with the champions taking home #300,000, runners-up receiving #200,000, and the third-place team being awarded #100,000.
