2025 BAL playoffs: Rivers Hoopers Club zooms into playoff

Nigeria’s representative in the 2025 Basketball Africa League (BAL), Rivers Hoopers Basketball Club of Port Harcourt, has secured a spot in the playoffs finals of the competition, scheduled for June in Pretoria, South Africa.


The “Kingsmen” and “Hoopers” earned their place in the playoffs with a hard-fought 79-71 victory over FUS de Rabat of Morocco.


This match was the reverse fixture of Match Day 2, which was held on Thursday night in Rabat, the Moroccan capital.


Having recorded three wins out of four games, the Hoopers are now guaranteed a place in the playoffs finals as one of the top two teams from the Kalahari Conference.


Hoopers’ star player, Madut Akec, was named Man of the Match with 17 points, eight rebounds, and three assists, while Kelvin Amayo contributed 14 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.


Al Ittihad Alexandria Basketball Club of Egypt became the first team to secure a spot in the playoffs, having recorded four consecutive wins out of four matches played so far.


Earlier in the day, Al Ittihad Alexandria completed a double over Stade Malien with a 91-68 victory. The defeat means that Stade Malien has lost all four games played so far.


Stade Malien will play against Rivers Hoopers on Friday in the reverse fixture of Match Day 1.
