Hoops N’ Read managed to squeeze in a few dunks, while Police Baton, who played host, managed only two slams as the checking-point sides kept a tight defense, ending the quarter 4-7.
Hoops N’ Read slipped in the second quarter, dropping their level of performance to the delight of the Lagos force, who wasted no time in taking the quarter 22-18.
Hoops N’ Read responded strongly in the third quarter, turning the tables in their favor to open a 10-point margin, 32-42, with captain Tolani Buhari asking for more.
The final quarter signaled Hoops N’ Read’s ascension to the top of the group, as Tolani Buhari led his team to victory, keeping the pressure on Police Baton to win the tie 62-51.
The victory and the ascension to the top of the group left Buhari smiling and feeling proud of his teammates, as men who want to make it to the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
He praised his side, stating that this is only the beginning of their quest to the promised land — BAL, with many tests, trials, and roadblocks ahead.
One such test is the game against Gboko City Chiefs, a formidable side whom Tolani Buhari said his team will come with their antidote.
Gboko City Chiefs, the rulers of the Savannah Conference, were stunned 71-75 today (Friday) by Kano Pillars, a side that pushed them beyond their limits with a series of well-tailored passes and dunks with perfection.
Kano Pillars will now face Police Baton.
The biggest win on Match Day 2 was recorded by Rivers Hoopers over Kwara Falcons, 89-34, while Nile University inflicted the second defeat on Gombe Bulls, 56-53.
