The Lagos team overwhelmed the Kwara Falcons with a dominant 94-48 victory at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium’s basketball courts in Benin City, Edo State.
Hoops N' Read started strong in the first quarter, with the Kwara team struggling as they fell behind by a massive 21-point margin, ending the quarter 30-9.
In the second quarter, the Lagos team continued to pressure the Falcons, establishing a significant 40-point lead to reach 59-19.
The third quarter saw Hoops N' Read relentlessly extend their lead, capitalizing on Kwara Falcons' lack of coordination and teamwork, bringing the score to 77-33.
In the final quarter, Hoops N' Read sealed their win, closing the game at 94-48, marking an exciting end to Match Day 3.
After the game, the Head Coach of Kwara Falcons attributed their poor performance to the substandard condition of the basketball court, lamenting that the first-tier league was being held in unsuitable conditions that impacted player safety and game quality.
“The low standard of the court and poor lighting definitely affected the team,” he added. “This isn’t the way it should be, but we have to make the best of what we have.”
Kwara Falcons player Chinedu Nwaoga echoed these sentiments, describing the hard court as difficult to play on and a strain on players' bodies. He also noted issues with the rims.
To address power issues at the stadium, the Nigeria Basketball Federation adjusted the match schedule, with games starting at 8:30 a.m. and the last of four games by 2:00 p.m.
Reflecting on his team’s performance, the Kwara Falcons coach admitted they were overwhelmed by the stronger, more experienced Hoops N' Read team but expressed optimism for the future.
“Our team is young, and this is a learning experience. We will come back stronger,” he said.
He acknowledged that the loss exposed areas for improvement and expressed confidence in his team’s development.
“We will work on ball rotation and strengthening our defense to match the intensity of opponents like Hoops N' Read,” he concluded.
Hoops N' Read will next face Delta Force on Match Day 4 at 2 p.m.
