AS Douanes, currently participating in the BAL in Senegal, was able to avenge their first defeat at the hands of Nigeria's representative, Rivers Hoopers, thus handing the Nigerian team their first defeat after a streak of three unbeaten matches.

Madut Akec, from AS Douanes, scored 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds as he led his team to a reverse fixture win over Nigeria's Rivers Hoopers in the BAL.

It was Rivers Hoopers' first defeat of the season in the Basketball Africa League, losing 56-54 to Senegal's AS Douanes in the final seconds.

The Nigerian representative failed to secure a spot in the playoffs with two games to spare.

The highly anticipated match was filled with excitement as both teams were determined to outdo each other. AS Douanes took the initial lead with a margin of 14-5, but Rivers Hoopers fought back.

However, AS Douanes managed to maintain the lead at 33-26 before both teams headed for halftime.

At the beginning of the third quarter, Kelvin Amayo dunked a three-pointer to give his team, Rivers Hoopers, a 37-36 lead.

Entering the final quarter, the Nigerian champions managed to maintain the tempo as they led by one point, 41-40.

A skillful play by Peter Olisemeka propelled the efforts of the Port Harcourt-based team, and he made a crucial block on Ibrahima Thomas to keep Rivers Hoopers ahead at 48-47 as the clock wound down.

Abdoulaye Harouna then became the hero of the day as he managed to sink a three-pointer for Douanes shortly thereafter, to the delight of the crowd.

With the game tied at 52-52 in the dying seconds, both teams presented a fierce shot at each other, while Harouna made two free throws to give Douanes the lead.

Despite the loss, Rivers Hoopers still leads the Sahara Conference table after four games with three wins, while APR and Douanes each have two wins apiece and Monastir one.
