Nigeria's representative at the ongoing Basketball Africa League (BAL) in Senegal, Rivers Hoopers, has qualified for the Sahara Conference, making them the first team to secure a spot in the playoffs scheduled to be held in Kigali.
The Nigerian basketball champions secured a hard-fought victory against APR with a score of 78-71, clinching the win in double overtime. Devine Eke's crucial put-back shot sent the game into the first overtime period tied at 58-58. In the final five minutes, the Hoopers outscored APR 13-6, sealing their place in the BAL playoffs.
Peter Olisemeka delivered an outstanding performance, recording a double-double with 17 points and 19 rebounds, along with 5 assists and 3 blocked shots. Despite a relatively quiet game from top scorer Will Perry, Eke stepped up on both ends of the floor, finishing with 18 points and 18 rebounds.

With the victory, Rivers Hoopers improved to a 4-1 record, while APR dropped to 2-3. The Rwandan champions faced a tough challenge in Dakar and now look ahead to their final match against hosts AS Douanes. Meanwhile, Rivers Hoopers will face US Monastir in their upcoming fixture.
