“Our strategy was to stay on the offensive, and that was why we pressed from inside with only a few outside shots.
“I did my best to receive the ball and avoided attacking through the middle because I wasn’t the best at shooting, but I was good at entering the offensive zone and getting the ball.
“I have faith in my teammates. We have a strong team,” he said.
UNILAG, the host, lost 66-67 to UGLC from Guinea on Day 2 of the ongoing 11th All Africa University Games (FASU Games) in the basketball event.
The 11th FASU Games, tagged *Lagos 2024*, are being co-hosted by UNILAG and Lagos State University (LASU) Ojo.
UNILAG led in the first quarter of the game, but Team UGLC rallied back in the second quarter, narrowly winning the final quarter by just one point to finish 67-66.
Team UNILAG attributed the loss to poor defensive execution.
Daramola Micheal, a Team UNILAG forward, told NAN that the team would focus on improving their defense moving forward.
“We didn’t play good defense, and we didn’t manage our offense well, which is what cost us today's game.
“Hopefully, we’ll come back stronger tomorrow and play a better game to make a difference.
“The coach specifically wanted us to focus on defense, but that’s where we struggled. We played poorly on defense, and our offense wasn’t much better.
“Even our free throws were worse. We need to work on that aspect as well.”
Micheal assured that the team would perform better in the next match.
“We have to do better tomorrow and aim to win. We expect the best from ourselves."
