Zharnel Hughes breaks Christie's 30-year-old record believes "sky is the limit"

Posted : 26 June 2023
Zharnel Hughes, the British sprinter, made headlines at the New York Grand Prix by clocking the fastest 100m time of the season. Breaking Linford Christie's 30-year-old British record, Hughes finished the race in an impressive 9.83 seconds.

Buoyed by his achievement, he believes that the "sky is the limit" for his future endeavors. Hughes has his sights set on the UK Championships in Manchester in July, where he plans to compete in both the 100m and 200m events. Additionally, he is eyeing a podium finish at the World Championships later in the summer.

Reflecting on his record-breaking performance, Hughes expressed his excitement and described it as a "surreal moment" in his career. He had written down his target time, 9.83, accompanied by the words "have faith" before the race.

Seeing that exact time displayed on the board left him in awe and reinforced his belief in the power of manifestation.

With his exceptional accomplishment, Hughes is eager to meet Linford Christie, with whom he shares a strong bond.

Despite never discussing the record with Christie, Hughes values their positive relationship and looks forward to returning to the UK to personally thank and embrace him.
