The Vice President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), Christopher Amkpila, has called on corporate bodies and individuals to support the development of wrestling in the country.
Amkpila made this call in an exclusive interview on Friday in Abuja.
He stated that funding is a global phenomenon that affects sports development worldwide.
“In Nigeria, we have many philanthropists who are ready to contribute to the developmental programs of various sports activities.
“In the wrestling federation, our doors are open to accommodate more corporate bodies and philanthropists willing to support the development of wrestling in Nigeria,” he said.
Amkpila commended the Comptroller General of Customs for sponsoring the wrestling championship.
He noted that the championship would help foster relationships among military and paramilitary agencies.
“The competition is all about friendship and unity, synergizing as various agencies of the government.
“The championship will help discover new talents that the Federation can keep and nurture for future international competitions,” he said.
The maiden edition of the Comptroller General of Customs Military and Paramilitary Wrestling Championship is tagged ‘National Wrestling Championship ABUJA 2024.’
The championship is organized by the Nigeria Wrestling Federation in collaboration with the Nigeria Chief of Defence Staff and the Nigeria Customs Service.
