U23 European Championships Final: Turkish Nezir and Akcam win men's 400m hurdles final

Turkish athletes Ismail Nezir and Berke Akcam secured a 1-2 victory for their country at the 2023 European Athletics U23 Championships in the men's 400m hurdles final.
Nezir took the lead at the penultimate barrier, winning the race in 49.19, while Akcam followed closely behind in second place with a time of 49.48. Sweden's Oskar Edlund claimed the bronze with a personal best of 49.57.
In the women's 400m hurdles, Norway's Andrea Rooth led the race from the start and managed to hold off challenges from France's Louise Maraval and Austria's Lena Pressler to win the gold in 55.78. Maraval secured the silver with a personal best of 55.83, and Pressler set a new Austrian national record of 55.94 to claim the bronze.
British athlete Rory Leonard completed a clean sweep of gold in the 5000m and 10,000m events, securing victory in the men's 5000m with a time of 29:08.33. Italy's Francesco Guerra took the silver in 29:11.86, and Spain's Miguel Baidal won the bronze in 29:14.91.
Alida van Daalen from the Netherlands achieved a thrilling double in the field events, winning the women's discus gold to add to her shot gold from earlier in the week. She recorded a best throw of 56.77m in the fifth round to secure the victory. Turkish athlete Ozlem Becerek took the silver with a throw of 55.38m, and Norway's Lotta Flatum won the bronze with 54.45m.
In the decathlon, Norwegian athletes Sander Skotheim and Markus Rooth are locked in an exciting duel for the gold medal. Rooth currently holds a 48-point lead over Skotheim with three events remaining, and both athletes are on course to challenge the championship record held by Germany's Niklas Kaul.
