Switzerland's Marlen Reusser emerged victorious in a tense time trial in St. Gallen during the second stage of the Tour de Suisse Women. She outperformed her teammate Demi Vollering to clinch the win and also took the overall lead, earning the honor of wearing the Leader Jersey into Stage 3.
The stage consisted of a challenging 25.7-kilometer course with over 400 meters of altitude difference, resulting in a significant time gap between the riders. Olympic Champion Anna Kiesenhofer initially set the benchmark, but her time was eventually surpassed by Brodie Chapman, Elisa Longo Borghini, Demi Vollering, and Marlen Reusser.
Defending champion Lucinda Brand struggled and finished in 15th place, more than two and a half minutes behind Reusser. Elise Chabbey, who had a strong performance in the previous stage, secured 12th place in the time trial.
Throughout the race, it became evident that Marlen Reusser, Demi Vollering, and Elisa Longo Borghini would fiercely contend for the stage victory. Reusser initially held a nine-second lead at the first intermediate split but lost three seconds to Longo Borghini at the second split. The battle for the win remained intense until the final 5.5 kilometers before the finish line.
In the end, Reusser showcased her strength and emerged as the strongest rider in the last section, securing the victory. With her triumph, she also took over the overall lead in the general classification, starting the third stage with a nine-second advantage over her teammate Vollering.
