Tour de France Femmes Stage 7: Demi Vollering wins stage, claims the coveted yellow jersey

Demi Vollering secured a remarkable victory on the seventh stage of the Tour de France Femmes, placing herself in a prime position to claim the coveted yellow jersey.
 
Overcoming the challenging mountain-top fog, Vollering displayed her prowess and determination, triumphing in the 89.9km stage with an impressive time of two hours, 52 minutes, and 43 seconds.
 
As a result of her outstanding performance, the Dutchwoman now holds the overall lead by a significant one minute and fifty seconds, ahead of Poland's Katarzyna Niewiadoma, with only the individual time trial left to determine the final outcome.
 
Vollering's fierce determination was evident as she pushed herself to the limit, with the support of her entire team motivating her to give it her all. She shared, "I went full gas to the finish. I felt good. I kept pushing. I was nervous, but the whole team was behind me and told me I could do it."
 
Before this stage, Vollering was in seventh place, trailing behind her Worx team-mate Lotte Kopecky, who held the previous race lead, by one minute. Additionally, she was 12 seconds adrift of defending champion Annemiek van Vleuten.
 
During the race, Vollering, Niewiadoma, and Van Vleuten formed part of the leading group that broke away during the first of two grueling climbs. In the final foggy ascent of the Tourmalet, Niewiadoma made a daring breakaway.
 
During a tense stand-off, Vollering and Van Vleuten initially chose not to pursue the leader. However, Vollering made a strategic move, launching an attack as they approached the skiing village of La Mongie.

With an impressive display of skill and determination, Vollering managed to catch up to Niewiadoma with six kilometers remaining and summon the energy needed to secure her victory as she crossed the finish line.
