Elisa Balsamo, a cyclist for Lidl-Trek, has been given the go-ahead to resume her training after suffering a broken jaw during the RideLondon Classique in May. She was involved in a crash during the opening stage and underwent successful surgery to treat multiple compound fractures.
Although Balsamo will still need dental treatment for her broken teeth, she has made significant progress and is now able to focus on preparing for her return to racing. Lidl-Trek has confirmed her improved condition and readiness to resume training on the road.
Despite her injury setback, Balsamo has set her sights on participating in the Tour de France Femmes as she aims to make a comeback to competitive cycling. However, a final decision on her participation will be made closer to the event, taking into account her recovery progress.
The team shares her ambition to compete in the Tour de France Femmes, and they will assess her readiness before making a final determination.
Following the Tour de France Femmes, Balsamo has her sights set on the World Championships in Glasgow. This event will be her next goal after the tour, demonstrating her determination and commitment to return to top-level racing. Balsamo's journey to recovery has reached an encouraging point, and she is eager to resume her career and continue pursuing her dreams in the world of cycling.
