Tour de France Femmes 2023: Tour de France Femmes returns with eight stages, hilly days, time trial, and mountain-top finish
Posted : 22 July 2023
After its successful return to the calendar last year for the first time since 1989, the Tour de France Femmes is set to begin its second edition on Sunday, 23rd July, starting in Clermont Ferrand, central southern France.
The eight-stage race will feature a diverse mix of flat stages, hilly days, a time trial, and a challenging mountain-top finish on the iconic Tourmalet in the Pyrenees.
Annemiek van Vleuten, last year's winner, will be back at the start line to defend her title in her final season in the peloton before retirement. The Dutch powerhouse comes into the Tour with another dominant win in the Giro d'Italia Donne just three weeks ago.
However, she will face strong competition from her compatriot Demi Vollering of SD Worx, who finished as the runner-up last year. Elisa Longo Borghini from Lidl-Trek and French rider Juliette Labous of Team DSM are also expected to be formidable challengers.
Ashleigh Moolman Pasio, a key contender for the yellow jersey, has centered her entire season around the Tour de France Femmes. The AG Insurance-Soudal Quick-Step rider is determined to perform well after an illness forced her to abandon last year's edition just before the final stages.
Throughout the Tour, this page will be updated following each stage with the winner and a brief report, keeping fans up-to-date with the thrilling action as riders battle for victory on the challenging course.
