Tour de France Day 7: Jasper Philipsen wins 35th Tour de France stage, surpassing Cavendish
Posted : 07 July 2023
Jasper Philipsen dashed Mark Cavendish's hopes of claiming a record-breaking 35th stage win at the Tour de France by securing victory in Bordeaux. Cavendish, a British cyclist, made a strong surge in the final sprint during stage seven, only to be overtaken by Philipsen just before the finish line.
Cavendish currently shares the record for the most Tour de France stage wins, with 34 victories, alongside the legendary Belgian cyclist Eddy Merckx. A win in this stage would have allowed Cavendish to claim the record outright, but Philipsen's impressive performance denied him that opportunity.
For Philipsen, the win marked his third stage victory in this year's Tour de France. The Belgian cyclist showcased his strength and skill as he powered past Cavendish in a thrilling finish.
Meanwhile, Denmark's defending champion, Jonas Vingegaard, held onto the coveted yellow jersey, maintaining his position as the overall leader of the race. As the Tour de France continues, Vingegaard aims to defend his title and fend off competition from the chasing pack.
