However, Vingegaard's overall performance means he will be crowned Tour de France champion for the second consecutive year after Sunday's processional stage into Paris. He holds an impressive lead of 7 minutes and 29 seconds over Pogacar, the biggest winning margin since 2014.
The penultimate stage also saw Giulio Ciccone secure the polka dot jersey, Adam Yates secure his place on the final podium, and his brother Simon rise to fourth place in the overall standings.
Local rider Thibaut Pinot put on an exceptional performance in his home region, bridging over to the day's breakaway and soloing over the summit of the penultimate climb, the Petit Ballon, to the cheers of his supporters.
In the final climb, the Col du Platzerwasel, Pogacar's attack spurred a reaction from Vingegaard and Felix Gall, resulting in a thrilling battle between the trio. They were later joined by the Yates brothers, and the five riders finished the last 5km together before a champagne finale. Pogacar sprinted to victory with his superior kick, marking his second stage win.
The 133.5km stage featured six sizable climbs, with Ciccone taking maximum points over the first four, securing the polka dot jersey. The race also had its share of challenges, with riders like Rodriguez and Kuss suffering hard falls on a tight corner during the first descent.
The penultimate stage of the Tour de France delivered intense competition and several notable moments as riders fought for the prestigious honors of the iconic race.
