Tour de France 2023: Canadian cyclist Michael Woods wins stage nine, overmining Jorgenson's lead
Posted : 09 July 2023
In a brilliant display of timing, Canadian cyclist Michael Woods secured his maiden stage victory at the Tour de France. Matteo Jorgenson took an early lead and held it for 47km, building a gap of over a minute as the riders approached the ascent of Puy de Dome, a dormant volcano.
However, Jorgenson's lead was short-lived as Woods, representing Israel Start-Up Nation, made a powerful surge less than 500m from the iconic summit finish. With an impressive burst of speed, Woods overtook Jorgenson, leaving him behind in his wake.
In the final moments before the finish line, Jorgenson was also overtaken by Pierre Latour and Matej Mohoric, who seized the opportunity to pass him. Nevertheless, it was Woods who emerged victorious, showcasing his exceptional timing and skill on the challenging climb.
