Switzerland win mixed team time trial at 2023 World Cycling Championships

Posted : 08 August 2023
Switzerland delivered a remarkable performance, securing a splendid victory in the mixed team time trial at the 2023 World Cycling Championships held in Glasgow. Despite their best efforts, France had to settle for second place behind the dominant Swiss, while Germany clinched the third position. Meanwhile, Great Britain concluded the race a minute and three seconds behind the eventual winners.

The mixed team time trial format provided an intriguing twist to the traditional event. Each nation's selected three male cyclists set off first, covering the course before passing the baton to their female counterparts. The combined times of both male and female participants determined each country's total time.

Switzerland entered the competition with a clear objective to defend their title over the 39km course in Scotland. They executed their strategy with precision, securing victory by a margin of seven seconds over second-placed France.

The race course, spanning 20km, required each male and female trio to complete a single lap. Notably resembling the city circuit that many male riders, including Switzerland's Stefan Kung, had completed ten times during the previous Sunday, the course posed its own challenges.

As reigning champions and strong favorites, the Swiss team held the advantage of being the final participants to start the race, showcasing their confidence on the track.

Germany secured the third position, trailing the champions by 51 seconds. Great Britain, while giving their best effort, settled for fourth place, trailing by an additional 12 seconds.

Switzerland's victory in the mixed team time trial demonstrated their prowess and teamwork, solidifying their status as champions at the 2023 World Cycling Championships.
