Steve Shanks: Runner dies returning home from the London Marathon

Shortly after finishing the London Marathon in under three hours, a man passed away.
Steve Shanks, 45, of Bingham, Nottinghamshire, passed away on Sunday while on route home, according to the event's organizers.
The runner, whose cause of death has not yet been disclosed, has received tributes.
His wife Jessica expressed her astonishment and devastation in a statement.
She said, his death came suddenly and out of the blue.
"He was returning home having spent the day participating in the London Marathon," she said. "As you can imagine I'm absolutely in shock and devastated."
A spokeswoman for the London Marathon expressed that they were very grieved to learn of Mr. Shanks's passing.
They noted that Mr. Shanks was a highly experienced runner who participated in the race on Sunday and finished the 26.2-mile (42.1-km) course in two hours and 53 minutes.
"Steve has won several club championships across all distances," the Holme Pierrepont Running Club wrote in a memorial posted on its website.
"He competed in races all over Europe and was a keen parkrun tourist.
"His talents were not limited to road running. He represented the club in cross country and won a club fell running championship in 2008."
