Slovenia's Kristjan Ceh sets championship records in discus, solidifying promotion prospects

Ukraine's Natalia Krol won the women's 800m in 1:59.77, just ahead of long-time leader Bianka Keri of Hungary.

Slovenia's Tina Sutej made first-time clearances at 4.30m and 4.50m, while Ceh made first-time clearances at 4.60m and 4.70m. Ceh arrived as a strong favorite, having recorded 71.86m in Johvi, Estonia last Friday.

Lithuania's Andrius Gudzius, the 2018 European champion, set a new record with a first-round effort of 67.30m, replacing the 62.22 set by Gudzius.

Ukraine's Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk took a first-round lead in the women's triple jump, improving to 14.58m in round two.
 
The men's 400m hurdles saw Lithuania's Milan Trajkovic win the men's 110m hurdles, while Estonia's Rasmus Magi won the men's 400m hurdles in 48.63. Slovenia's Matic Gucek earned vital points in second place in 49.48, the fastest European U23 time of the season.

On the second day of the Silesia 2023 European Athletics Team Championships, Slovenia's Kristjan Ceh stole the spotlight with his impressive discus throws.

Breaking the championship record not once, but twice, Ceh achieved distances of 69.29m and 69.94m, surpassing the mark set by his coach, Gerd Kanter. Ceh's exceptional performance helped secure Slovenia's position in the promotion zone of the competition, and he expressed hope that his team would make it to the first division.
 
Hungary maintained their strong lead in the team rankings heading into the final day of the championships, with 331 points compared to Ukraine's 293.50 and Slovenia's 266.50.

The Hungarian team showcased their strength in events such as the women's 4x100m relay, where they won in a national record time of 43.49 seconds. Ukraine, however, redeemed themselves in the men's 4x100m relay, clinching first place with a time of 39.03 seconds.
 
Throughout the competition, several standout performances were witnessed. Ukrainian athlete Natalia Krol emerged victorious in the women's 800m despite being spiked during the race.

Slovenia's Tina Sutej triumphed in the women's pole vault, clearing heights of 4.30m, 4.40m, and 4.50m to secure the win.

In the men's discus, Ceh asserted his dominance early on with a first-round throw of 67.30m, ultimately breaking the championship record twice and solidifying his position as a favorite.
 
The final day of the championships would determine the promotion standings, and teams like Hungary, Ukraine, and Slovenia aimed to secure their spots in the top three.

With intense competition and remarkable performances, the athletes looked forward to delivering their best and potentially achieving personal bests and European leading marks.
