Tadej Pogacar's participation in the UCI Road World Championships in Glasgow has been confirmed by the Slovenian Cycling Federation. Despite facing doubts due to fatigue after the demanding three-week Tour de France, Pogacar has adequately recovered and is ready to compete in the prestigious event.
Pogacar, who finished second in the Tour de France, will lead the Slovenian team in both the elite men's road race and time trial. After a grueling battle for cycling's top honors in France, he expressed frustration and fatigue. As a result, he chose not to participate in the post-Tour criteriums, which raised concerns about his appearance at the World Championships.
However, the Slovenian Cycling Federation has assured that Pogacar will be present in Glasgow to challenge some of the sport's biggest names. He will be the sole representative for Slovenia, facing strong competitors such as Kristijan Koren, Matevz Govekar, Luka Mezgec, Anze Skok, and Paka Primozic in the elite men's road race on Sunday, August 6.
In addition to the road race, Pogacar will also compete in the time trial on Friday, August 11. He aims to improve upon his 10th-place finish in 2021 and his sixth-place finish from the previous year.
Notably, Pogacar's compatriots, Primoz Roglic and Matej Mohoric, have opted to skip the World Championships.
Following the event in Glasgow, the 24-year-old is expected to conclude his season with various one-day meets and the Il Lombardia race in Italy on October 7.
