Simone Biles returns to U.S. Classic for first appearance since Tokyo Olympics

Simone Biles, renowned as one of the greatest athletes in history, is set to make her return to competition. USA Gymnastics announced on Wednesday that Biles, aged 26, will participate in the upcoming U.S. Classic on August 5. This event will mark her first appearance since the Tokyo Olympics.
Joining Biles in this rare competition appearance is Sunisa Lee, the gold medalist from the Tokyo Olympics. Lee, whose previous elite competition was at the Games in Tokyo two years ago, will also be taking part in the event.
While Lee has confirmed her presence in Paris, Biles has yet to reveal her intentions regarding next year's Olympics and has not provided any updates on recent training activities.
Having received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Joe Biden in the previous year, Biles holds the distinction of being the most decorated gymnast in American history.
Her collection of 32 medals from the Olympics and World Championships attests to her exceptional achievements. In addition to her sporting prowess, Biles has actively championed various causes close to her heart, including the mental well-being of athletes, supporting at-risk youth, and advocating for the rights of victims of sexual assault.
Biles' decision to withdraw from team competition during the last Tokyo Olympics due to mental difficulties created a significant and memorable moment.
Subsequently, she also withdrew from the all-around competition, despite being a strong contender for the gold medal, as well as three individual finals. Ultimately, Biles opted to participate in the beam final and earned a place on the podium.
In a 2021 interview with The New York Times, she candidly expressed, "Considering everything I have endured in the past seven years, I should have retired long before the Tokyo Olympics, especially during the two-year period when the Larry Nassar scandal was making headlines. It became overwhelming. However, I was not prepared to let him rob me of something I had dedicated myself to since the age of six. I was not ready to relinquish my joy for life, so I did my best to suppress it."
