Simone Biles prepares US Open comeback after Tokyo Olympics
Posted : 05 August 2023
The anticipation in the U.S. is palpable as the greatest gymnast of all time, Simone Biles, prepares to make her comeback tonight (Saturday through Sunday). Two years after the Tokyo Olympics, which was initially thought to be the end of her career, Biles will compete in an official event as part of the preparatory competition for the US Open at the end of August.
The competition in Chicago was not expected to draw a large crowd, but as soon as Simone Biles announced her return, tickets were quickly sold out, and the arena will be packed to capacity. Even though her registration for the competition was confirmed only today, fans and the media are in a frenzy, eagerly waiting to see the four-time gold medalist from the 2016 Rio Olympics back in action.
Biles has remained quiet since news broke of her return to training. In response to her followers' questions on Instagram, she assured them, "Don't worry, I'm feeling good and everything is fine. I took more than a year off, and now I'm back. When I feel the twist again, I just keep practicing as usual." At the Tokyo Olympics, Biles suffered from "twisties," a mental problem that affected her control in the air, causing her to withdraw from most competitions. However, she did participate in the beam exercise and won the bronze medal.
After the Olympics, she announced a break and recently married football player Jonathan Evans. Her decision to return to competition came as a surprise to many. Biles competed in an internal U.S. competition last month, winning the balance beam and floor exercise, demonstrating that she still has a lot to offer.
Although she hasn't officially announced it yet, it appears that Biles aims to return to the next year's Olympics in Paris and seek redemption. Additionally, we might see her at the World Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp at the end of September. Regardless of her future plans, tonight marks the beginning of one of the most exciting comebacks in sports history.
