Sha'Carri Richardson wins fastest US 100m time, qualifying for World Championships

Posted : 07 July 2023
Sha'Carri Richardson made a powerful statement in her quest to qualify for the World Championships by running the fastest women's 100m time of the year. The 23-year-old American displayed her speed and determination at the US athletics championships in Oregon, clocking an impressive time of 10.71 seconds in the heats.

Richardson's time surpassed the previous fastest of the year, set by Marie-Josee Ta Lou of Ivory Coast at the Oslo Diamond League, who ran 10.75 seconds. Not only did Richardson claim the top spot for the year, but she also improved upon her personal best, shaving one-tenth of a second off her previous record achieved in 2021 at the Miramar Invitational in Florida.

The 100m semi-finals and final are scheduled for Friday, where the top three sprinters from the US championships will secure their spots in the upcoming World Championships in Budapest. This is a crucial opportunity for Richardson to showcase her talent and secure her place among the elite athletes on the world stage.

Richardson's journey to the World Championships comes after she was unable to participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics due to a ban resulting from a positive cannabis test. However, she has bounced back with determination and continues to prove her prowess on the track, setting herself up for a shot at international glory.
