Posted : 29 July 2024

Anuoluwapo Opeyori, Team Nigeria's General Captain and Co-flagbearer at the Paris 2024 Olympics, has expressed the team’s unwavering determination to deliver an exceptional performance at the games.

In an interview, Opeyori emphasized that Team Nigeria is poised to achieve greatness.

"Team Nigeria will do great things, better than ever before. This team has zeal, determination, and team spirit. We will perform excellently," he said.

Opeyori, who is leading Team Nigeria for the first time, expressed his elation at representing the country.

"I am honored to represent the country as Captain and Flagbearer. I feel happy and elated as a first-time captain of Team Nigeria," he stated.

The Team Nigeria Captain praised the organizers of the Paris 2024 Olympics for delivering a spectacular event, despite the challenges posed by the rain during the opening ceremony. He described the event as "fantastic," with numerous jets flying over the athletes at the massive ceremony, which drew large crowds.

Opeyori also commended Team Nigeria's colorful outfit during the opening ceremony, which attracted the attention of locals who celebrated and took pictures with the team.

He said, "Team Nigeria's colorful outfit was a delight to the audience in Paris during the Opening Ceremony, with locals celebrating and taking photos with the team each time they walked past."

The sporting facilities in Paris also impressed Opeyori, who described them as "top-notch" and "the best I have seen anywhere in the world."

With his match against the world's number 6 badminton player approaching, Opeyori expressed his motivation and confidence, saying, "I am motivated; Nigeria should expect the best from me. I feel ready to face the best in the world."

Opeyori has dominated Africa in men’s singles from 2019 to the present, winning four African Championship titles and two African Games titles.
